Why do I write? That is the question almost everyone who has ever seen my work has asked. And I have, in countless letters, text messages and prison visits, essayed a reply. I believe a writer is someone who, in some small way, tries to set the world to rights: much like a serial killer or Noel Edmonds. And, like Noel Edmonds, the writer can be a tough person to like.
